SPAN 4003 Spanish for Global Health II

Prerequisites: SPAN 3010 and SPAN 3020. SPAN 4003 is the second of two courses in which students investigate health care terminology and cultural themes that facilitate communication in a variety of global health care venues. In this course, students will acquire advanced-level Spanish conversational terminology in specialized medicine settings, advanced medical vocabulary and health care concepts, cultural concepts, and advanced legal vocabulary that relate to Hispanic health care within the scope of the U.S., Latin America, and the Spanish-speaking world.

SPAN 4110 Adv Structure & Composition

Prerequisites: SPAN 3010 and SPAN 3020. Detailed, analytical study of grammatical and oral structures with ample opportunity for practical application in composition and conversation.

SPAN 4150 Business Spanish

Prerequisite: SPAN 3010 and SPAN 3020. This course focuses on analyzing and producing business practices and discourses in Spanish. Successful business practices involve advanced linguistic skills, but also deep knowledge of the cultural conditions and rules that make possible and shape communication. Being argumentation is at the heart of the business mindset and legal discourse, this course intends to provide the necessary rhetorical and argumentative skills that the professional, globalized world of our present demands.

SPAN 4450 Spanish Civilization

Prerequisites: SPAN 3010, SPAN 3020. Significant examples of Spanish achievements set against the social, political and especially the literary background.

SPAN 4500 Seminar in Contemp Lat/Am Cult

Prerequisites: SPAN 3010, SPAN 3020. Study of the culture of the Latin-American peoples in the light of various ethnic, economic and social factors that influence the cultural development of each people and Inter-American relations. This course is repeatable for credit.

SPAN 4940 Independent Study

Prerequisite: SPAN 2002 or permission of the instructor. Consideration of topics in which courses are not otherwise offered but for which there is a current need. Subject matter varies. May be repeated.

Prerequisites: SPAN 3010, SPAN 3020, and one of the following: SPAN 3210, SPAN 3220, SPAN 3230, SPAN 3240, or SPAN 4500. Consideration of topics in which courses are not otherwise offered but for which there is a current need. Subject matter varies. This course is repeatable for credit.

Prerequisites: SPAN 3010, SPAN 3020, and Chairperson's approval. Individually designed learning experience involving off-campus field experience and study in the private or public sector. This course is repeatable for credit.
