Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports Graduate Certificate

The PBIS Certificate features a three-part series of courses designed to acclimate and educate the practicing educator in the concepts, research, and issues surrounding the implementation of Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS), an evidenced-based framework for solving student behavioral issues through proactive and positive behavior management at the primary, secondary, and tertiary levels. The initial course in the series focuses on an introduction to school climate and culture and its influence on student achievement and behavior. The second course focuses on PBIS at the classroom level, and the final course focuses on an examination of PBIS interventions with students at the Tier III level as well as models of behavior support programs.

Certificate Admission Requirements

  • Admitted to the university as a graduate student in education
  • Submit two professional recommendations (pdf) using the College of Education format
  • Submit official transcripts from all colleges/universities attended
  • Submit verification of immunization (pdf)

Dismissal Policy

Students are required to maintain a 3.0 GPA during the three-course series that comprise the certificate program. If a student's GPA falls below a 3.0 he/she may petition to stay in the certificate program for one semester. If at the end of the semester on probation the student's GPA is still below a 3.0, he/she will be dismissed from the certificate program. Any student who plagiarizes work will fail that course (receive an F) and be referred to the Judicial Council for a violation of Georgia College's Honor Code.

Exit Requirements

At the completion of the three-course certificate program students who have met all requirements of the three-course series will be eligible to receive the certificate in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports.
