Undergraduate Catalog 2014-2015

Policy for Individuals with Disabilities

Georgia College is committed to the full and total inclusion of all individuals and to the principle of individual rights and responsibilities.  To this end, policies and procedures will ensure that persons with a disability will not, on the basis of that disability, be denied full and equal access to academic and co-curricular programs or activities or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under programs or activities offered by Georgia College.

This policy was developed to ensure equal access at Georgia College for individuals with disabilities and to ensure full compliance with all pertinent federal and state legislation, including Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) of 1990 as amended in 2008.

There is a three-step process for students requesting academic accommodations.

1. Complete and submit a Disability Services Request for Services Form. Disability Services will provide the student with a Request for Services Form that should be completed and mailed, faxed at 478-445-1959, or delivered in person.

2. Provide Disability Documentation.  Students must provide documentation from an appropriate licensed professional that documents the impairment(s). Along with the documentation, students can also include any records of accommodations/services provided in previous academic settings (e.g. IEP, SOP, Section 504 Plans, or letters from other collegiate institutions).  Documentation guidelines can be found on the Disability Services’ website.

3. Schedule a registration meeting with Disability Services Director.  This will give the student an opportunity to learn about Disability Services as well as discuss the student’s disability, how it may affect him/her in an academic environment, and request appropriate accommodations.
