Degrees Offered

The graduate programs in Early Childhood education lead to a Master of Education Degree or a Specialist in Education Degree. The graduate programs in Middle Grades Education lead to a Master of Art in Teaching Degree, a Master of Education Degree, or a Specialist in Education Degree.

The Department of Early Childhood and Middle Grades Education offers the following graduate degree programs:

  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Early Childhood Education;
  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Education with concentrations in:
    • Middle Grades Reading
    • Middle Grades Language Arts
    • Middle Grades Science
    • Middle Grades Social Studies
    • Middle Grades Mathematics
  • Master of Education (M.Ed.) in Reading, Literacy, and Language
  • Specialist in Education (Ed.S.) in Education with a concentration in Early Childhood Education
  • Specialist in Education (Ed.S.) in Education with concentrations in:
    • Middle Grades Reading
    • Middle Grades Language Arts
    • Middle Grades Science
    • Middle Grades Social Studies
    • Middle Grades Mathematics

Additionally, it offers the following non-degree programs:

  • English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Endorsement
  • Reading Endorsement

Certification

Students successfully completing the Middle Grades M.A.T. program for initial certification may be recommended for a level five (T5) Georgia Teacher's Certificate (4-8).

Students completing the M.Ed. with a concentration in Early Childhood or Middle Grades Education may request level five (T5) certification through their school boards or directly through the Georgia Professional Standards Commission (Ga PSC).

Students completing the M. Ed. in Reading, Literacy, and Language may request level 5 (T5) certification through their school boards or directly through the Ga PSC.

Students completing the Ed.S. in Education with concentrations in Early Childhood or Middle Grades Education may request level six (T6) certification through their school boards or directly through the Ga PSC.
